How long will it take before I can have my sleep study? Once ordered by your physician, you can have your test performed within 72 hours Once ordered by your physician, your sleep study will be performed dependent upon the waiting list our facilities
Is there any preparation on my part prior to the sleep study? A home sleep study device is shipped directly to your home. Detailed written instructions along with a DVD or video are provided explaining how to perform the sleep study You will be spending the night at a sleep facility. You will need to pack your sleepwear, toiletries, and clothing to wear in the morning after
Can my bed partner sleep in the same bed? YES YES
How long will the study last? You are to wear the device TWO nights for as long as you are sleeping. It is recommended to be worn for at least 6 hour You will arrive at about one to three hours prior to going to bed. The study will last from approximately 11:00 pm to 6:00 am
What do I do if I have to get up in the middle of the night? Nothing. The small device is attached directly to you, so you will have nothing to detach. Notify the sleep technician. They will have to disconnect the sensor wires, so that you may get up from the bed unless wireless technology is used. Will I have my own bathroom? Yes
What will be attached to my body? You will place a small device on the front of your chest using an elastic belt. Wires from the belt, one from your finger and one from under your nose will be attached to the device. A minimum of 16 sensors will be attached to various parts of your body including your scalp, forehead, chin, chest, ankle/leg and index finger. The sensors are attached by a technician using a temporary adhesive/gel.
What will the sleep study be monitoring? Respiratory effort, snoring, pulse rate, oxygen saturation, and body position for the presence of obstructive sleep apnea. At a minimum, respiratory effort, snoring, pulse rate, oxygen saturation, body position, heart rhythm, brain waves, eye movements and leg movements for the presence of a sleep disorder.
What if I can’t figure out how to work the home sleep study device? You will be given a direct number that will be available 24 hours /day,7days/week for support for any questions during the process. You will have detailed written instructions as well as user guide video link A sleep technician will apply the sensors to your body and will be watching you through a video camera while the sleep study is performed. This technician will be available to you at any time during your study
Is the Quality of this test approved by the medical community? Yes. A test performed in the comfort of your own bed may provide a more representative study than one performed in a facility YES
Will my study be evaluated by a Board Certified Sleep Specialist? YES YES
How quickly will I get the results of the test? Your referring physician will have the test results within 72 hours after receipt the HST equipment back from you. Your referring physician will have the results within 1 week from the time the test was completed.
Is the sleep study covered by my insurance? Sleep studies are covered under your insurance plan if the medical criteria are met.
